I've taken a 6 month career break to help me decide what I want to do when I grow up! This BLOG will record my adventures and chart my progress as I cycle the western pacific coast of the US for Room to Read. Find out what I've been up to and how I'm getting on...

Day 9 Report - pt 2

...as ive said before...lunch, if done right, can turn a bad day around. i was once again ready for the fight...and just as well because there were indeed the foretold hills, but also a niggly wee headwind. Ive actually been facing a light headwind for a couple of days now. nothing youd really write home about (oh, it seems i am!) but anyone who's cycled edinburgh to north berwick and back knows how a seemingly innocuous waft going out can be extremely wearing on the way back. there is no cover, like parts of the oregon coast. While on the subject i can report that what ive seen thus far is quite stunning (photos to come). So back to the headwind...this and the rolling terrain meant i needed to switch to impulse power for the last few miles into garibaldi. I can neither confirm nor deny whether the famous italian general of the same name came here. What i can say is that the town...ahem, i do apologise, city...in oregon it seems everywhere is a city... is quiet...tbc

  1. I've done Edinburgh to North Berwick on a Sunday afternoon once, and never again. Really thought I was flying along, couldnae believe it when I turned to head home. Went to Drem instead and waited for the Sunday timetable to get back up the road.

  2. The term 'city' is defined by state law, so there's no standard national definition. Often it is the form of government, but in some cases, it's just the name they town chose for itself around the time it was settled, which on this side of the country can, in cases, be as little as one hundred years ago.
